A Look Into Our Easter Breakfast 2013

I woke up extra early this morning to prepare Easter Breakfast before heading off to church. Here's a look at our table!

I love the look of simple white plates and the splash of green.

Peter Rabbit salt and pepper shaker set is perfect!

I love my baby bunnies.

Love my large lettuce bowl. I use mine to just sit out but this would be perfect for Easter lunch to hold salad or soup.

One of my favorite pieces is the bumble bee pitcher which today is used for Pineapple Orange Juice.

Now to the menu...........Paula Deens French Toast Bake. I will have the recipe posted soon.

I am so proud of how my carrot cheese logs turned out. The perfect Easter goodies! I will also post this recipe soon.

Yes, those are chocolate covered strawberries sitting next to them. Yum!

The other end of the table had French toast, fruit salad, and pound cake slices.

Hot out of the oven!

Ok its time for a little honesty here...........I made the pound cake as a back up just in case the French toast did not turn out but it did thank goodness. I am always nervous making a new dish for the first time.

HAPPY EASTER TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!!

Saturday Estate Sale Shopping for Furniture To Paint

I have had so much fun painting my new desk that I could not wait to find something new. I went out again this weekend to look at estate sales and found a few items but left with one. I am learning a lot about yard sales and estate sales.

I noticed with this one the sign seemed strong, example:"No early birds at all." That shows me these people are not likely to want to give you a bargain. I was right because when I did go I found everything to be pretty expensive.

The picture doesn't really give the true size but this was a pretty large mirror. I felt if I painted it white it would be so pretty but I didn't want to pay $30. Whats your thoughts, good or to high? I really am learning so any thought are greatly appreciated!

Then there was this cabinet which I love!!! I have no where in the world to put it in my home but it would look amazing painted. I would have loved to have given this a new look so here is my next question, do any of you do this as a hobby and sell your items? If so, how and where do you sell them? They were asking $150 for this, which I also thought was to high. What do you think?

My big purchase of the day...............

I really wanted this desk but did not want to pay the price listed. I felt since I was there so early there was no way they would reduce the price so I left. I went back several hours later and it was still there so I started the negotiations! I paid a little more than I wanted but no where near the price they wanted.

Here is my inspiration and what I plan to do. I can not remember where I found this so I cant give the source but I love it!

I cant wait to have this set up and ready to use. I will be sure to share!! Also thank you to anyone that can help answer my two questions.

Weekly Weight Watchers Tip

I thought I would share a Weight Watchers Tip that works for me when going out to eat. I find this is the one area that can really add on calories and weight if you are not careful.

  • I look on the menu for fresh vegetables that I can substitute a naughty side for. If I order a burger I might look for fresh steamed broccoli instead of fries.

  • I try to always order a side salad and fill up on that first. Then it is much easier to pack up half of my dish and take home for dinner or lunch the next day.

  • If I don't find what I am looking for on the menu I ask the server. I am surprised how many times something can be made for me that is not on the menu. So many times they are happy to put something together and at no extra charge.

  • Check to see how the item is prepared. Is it sauteed in a stick of butter? Very important facts to know.

I hope this helps!

Found The Perfect Desk For My Guest Room

As you saw in a previous post I am giving my guest room a makeover. I also have picked up a new hobby of giving furniture a new life. My daughter will be going to college in a just a few months and should she bring home any sorority sisters or friends I want the room ready to go!

I have been on the hunt for an older desk and I found my desk!!

I found it at a yard sale one Saturday morning. They were asking $125.00 but I was able to get it for $80.00!! A real wood from the 1940s and very heavy wood I might add.

Eddie and I were then off to Home Depot to purchase the tools I needed to get started on my new"hobby!" Who knew I would be so excited!!!

I started sanding and found there is no way I could have completed this by hand. Having an electric sander is a must, at least for me!

After hours of sanding here is the 1st step finished!

As I was sanding I found a note inside that was written to the owner of the desk for Valentines Day from his daughter. I also found the owners name on the desk. He was a Captain in the Army and he used the desk in his office. I was able to google him and found his wife was from Norway and came over in 1926 to the Statue of Liberty. Great history!

I plan to remove the little note.....I know it will be said to see Little Ingrid's note go but I am going to paint the inside of the drawers black to give it a clean sleek look.

Taking the original handles off of a desk that is from the 1940s was a little challenging but that's when you bring your husbands strong muscles in!

The top of the desk had two deep cuts that I really wanted smoothed out.

I found the perfect product to use when you have this problem and it worked great!

The primer that I choose to use was Zinsser Cover Stain Primer and I was very pleased with it.

The first coat of primer is on and we are moving in the right direction for Step 2! I am so excited with what the finished product will end up looking like. Remember this is just with the first coat of primer!

Here is an idea of where my inspiration came from. I cant wait to have my desk in place.

This weekend will be filled with hours of painting so I can try and wrap this up and get it in place. I hope to have a picture to update you soon!

Have a great weekend!
